INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

• Publication instructions

We accept original papers in Psychology and related areas involving theoretical studies, research reports, critical reviews, professional communications, information about events, news and also reviews in the Psychology area.

If the manuscripts are in accordance with the publication instructions, the Magazine’s Editorial Board will send them to two members of the Editorial Board or ad hoc consultants for blind evaluation.

Two favorable opinions indicates final acceptance for publication. Few orthographic changes in the text can be made according to the magazine’s Editorial Board criteria without consulting the authors previously.

Manuscripts which were sent for publication should follow the instructions below:

1. REVIEW SUBMISSION

1.1. Register as an author and submit your contribution electronically through the address: http://submission-pepsic.scielo.br/index.php/arbp/login

1.2. Reviews should be about both national and foreign publications. The reviews should have 5 pages at most and they should include: title of the book, city, publisher, number of pages, names of the author and the translator.

2. ARTICLE SUBMISSION

2.1. Register as an author and submit your contribution electronically through the address: http://submission-pepsic.scielo.br/index.php/arbp/login

The contribution should include:

• Portuguese title, with only the first letter in capital letter;
• English title, with only the first letter in capital letter;
• Portuguese abstract (up to 1,000 characters);
• English abstract (up to 1,000 characters);
• Portuguese key-words: three at least;
• English key-words: three at least;
• text, without any author identification in the heading and in the body of the text, for consultant evaluation.

Remember to remove the author’s name from the document’s properties (accessible at “document properties”, option of the menu “File” of MS Word e OpenOffice.org 1.0 Writer).

Authorship identification happens through registration, a previous and necessary phase for submission. Therefore, the author should fill it out carefully, paying attention to the fields of position and institutional link.

Other information may be sent by filling the field Comments to the editor, when the author submits the contribution

3. TEXT

• From about 8 to 20 pages of length (16,800 to 50,000 characters), 1,5 line spacing. We accept texts in Portuguese, Spanish, French or English;

• All texts must be submitted in Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) or OpenOffice.org 1.0 Text Document (.sxw) format;

• Tables, graphics and images (JPEG format) should be included in the body of the text (not exceeding the maximum limit of 1Mb per image).

4. QUOTATION IN THE TEXT

4.1. Without literal transcription of the reference: indicate the author through the following way: last name and publication date between parenthesis. Ex.: Piaget (1976). Obs.: If there are two or more works quoted by the same author and year, it is needed to indicate after the date the letter “a” for the first and the letter “b” for the second and so on. Ex.: Piaget (1976a). Piaget (1976b).

4.2. With literal transcription of part of the quoted text: indicate the author(s) as above, and:

4.2.1. If there are less than 5 lines quoted, use quotation marks without forming a new paragraph. Ex.: Pereira (1997): “The rise in the number of investigations...” (p.33);

4.2.2. If there are more than 5 lines quoted, the left margin should be moved back and the text in italic placed between quotation marks, after which the page number should appear.

4.3. Quotation of an old work: place it after the indication of the author the year of the original publication followed by the year of the used edition. Ex.: Kant (1781/1980).

4.4. Quotation of a quotation: place the name of the original author and the respective date between parentheses, also between parenthesis the word apud and the name of the consulted author and respective date. Ex.: Adorno (1979, apud MAAR, 1996).

5. NOTES (if there are some)

They are placed as footnotes and also they are numbered in sequence.

6. BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES

6.1. Indicate only those found in the text.

6.2. Authors: listed in alphabetical order in last name sequence, in capital letters (exceptionally two last names may be used, when indispensable for understanding). Ex.: LÉVI-STRAUSS, C.

6.3. Multiple authorship: up to three authors, place semicolon after the initials of the names. When there are four or more authors, indicate only the first followed by the term et al. Ex.: URANI, A. et al. Constituição de uma matriz de contabilidade social para o Brasil. Brasília: IPEA, 1994.

6.4. Books: indicate the author(s) in capital letters, title in lower case and italic, edition, city of publication, publisher and date of publication of the work actually consulted. Ex.: PIAGET, J. Le comportement moteur de l´evolution. Paris: Gallimard, 1976.

6.5. Book chapter: indicate the author(s) in capital letters, title of the chapter, followed by the expression “In:” and the complete reference of the book, with name of author(s) or organizer, and in this last case there should be the indication (Org.), followed by the title of the book in italic, the city of publication, publisher and date. At the end of the reference inform the chapter or page number. Ex.: ROMANO, G. Imagens da juventude na era moderna. In: LEVI, G.; SCHIMIDT, J. (Org.). Histórias dos jovens 2. São Paulo: Companhia das Letras, 1996. p.7-16.

6.6. Periodicals: indicate the author´s name in capital letters, followed by the article’s title, the periodical’s title or abbreviation in italic, place of publication, number of volume and/or year, issue number, first and last page of article and year. Ex.: FRANKEL, E. Psicoterapia corporal: desafios, entraves e perspectivas. Arquivos Brasileiros de Psicologia, Rio de Janeiro, v. 49, n. 2, p. 100–105, 1997.

6.7. Repetition of same author: if there is more than one work by the same author, it is not necessary to repeat his/her name. It’s enough to replace the name by an underline (of six characters length) and dot.

6.8. Quotation of quotation: mention only the consulted source.

6.9. Institutional authorship: for example: CENTRE ROYAUMONT POUR UNE SCIENCE DE L’ HOMME. Theóries du langage et theóries de l’apprentissage. Paris: Ed. du Seuil, 1979.

6.10 Paper presented in event: indicate author(s) in capital letter, the paper’s title (if it wasn’t fully published, place abstract between parenthesis), followed by the expression “In:” and title of event (if any), year and place (city), title of publication in italic (Ex.: Annals...) place, publisher, date of publication and first and last page of quoted section.

6.11 Thesis and dissertations: indicate the author´s name in capital letter, title in italic, year, number of pages, Dissertation or Thesis, course (Masters or PhD in…), program in which it was defended, institution, city and date. Ex.: ARAUJO, U. A. M. Máscaras inteiriças Tukúna: possibilidades de estudo de artefatos de museu para o conhecimento do universo indígena. 1985. 102 f. Dissertação (Mestrado em Ciências Sociais) – Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo, São Paulo, 1986.

6.12 Electronic document: obey the instructions indicated for the other documents and include the expressions Available at (indicate the electronic address) and Accessed in (indicate the year). Ex.: JOULE, R. V.; BERNARD, F. Por uma nova abordagem de mudança social: a comunicação do compromisso. Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa, Brasília, v. 21, n. 1, 2005. Available at: http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S010237722005000100005&lng=pt&nrm=iso. Accessed in: 31 out. 2006.

I’m aware that the contribution submitted to the Magazine’s Editorial Board will be sent to two members of the Editorial Board or ad hoc consultants for a blind evaluation if it is in accordance with the publication instructions. Also, I’m aware that few orthographic changes in the text may be done according to the Editorial Board’s criteria without consulting the authors previously.
