- Ask one of your area or department colleagues, to appreciate your manuscript and to make critical comments about it;
- Review, carefully, your manuscript with relation to Portguese and typing correction;

The editorial process will not be started without this letter receiving.

Editorial comission procedures

The editorial review process will only begin if the manuscript submission follows the conditions above. If not, the authors will receive letter or e-mail asking for the adequacy to the guides, copies, letters or signatures inclusion. The manuscript received are, initially, appreciated by the Editor, who will send it to the authors letter or e-mail telling about the beginning of the editorial process. Papers that are in agreement to the guides above and that are considered potentially publishable by Avaliação Psicológica will follow to Ad Hoc consultants. The originals submitted and floppy disks won´t be given back. The Ad hoc consultants will be chosen by Editor between competence-known researchers in area.

The authors can help in editorial process indicating possible consultants (qualified researchers affiliated to institutions, other than the authors) in submitting letter. Avaliação Psicológica encourages this procedure but the consultants choice will be always made by the Editor, who can or not make use of the authors suggestions. The authors identity and their institutional affiliation won´t be informed to the ad hoc consultants. The consultants identity won´t be informed to the manuscript authors. If a consultant has any obstacle in analyzing a manuscript, he/she must turn it back, immediately, to the author. The consultants, after analyzing the manuscript, reject, recommend changes or accept the manuscript to publication.

Authors will receive complete statement copies from consultants. Avaliação Psicológica considers that authors have the right to know all possible reactions that their work can generate in scientific community, during the editorial process.

Avaliação Psicológica counts on consultants who are qualified colleagues and look for a best quality of the published texts by critics and constructive statements. In case the manuscript was rejected, authors could be encouraged to submit it again. In these cases, Avaliação Psicológica recommends a careful review on the manuscript, giving attention to the consultants statements, before restarting the process. Generally, manuscript submitted after a first rejection, besides a new date for editorial process beginning, will be directed to the same consultants who first reviewed the work.

The recommendation for publishing associated to suggestions doesn´t mean, necessarily, the the manuscript will be accepted. The suggestions aim at, in general, to improve the clearness or the precision on the text. Rarely a submitted article can not be improved. It´s important that the authors understand that changes requests on an article are common and routine in every high quality papers. The consultants suggestions aim at work improvement to meet the scientific community and the journal requirements and should not be considered as personal critics. The authors whose manuscript was recommended, but that have changes to be made, must reformulate their work, in order to get final acceptance. They also must highlight in red the changes that have been made in the text. If authors don’t agree with any of the consultants suggestions, they must include this information in the letter to the editor, so that the reformulated version can be set in motion, information about the changes that were made and justifications to those that were not made. This letter and the reformulated manuscript will be guided to one of the Editorial Counselors, attached to the ad hoc consultants statements and the initial version of the manuscript for final analysis. In this procedure step, the Editorial Counselor will know the author’s and the consultant’s identity.

The counselor´s task will be to analyze the reformulated version of the manuscript, helping the editor to take the final decision about its publication. In his analyze, counselor could reject the manuscript, suggest new alterations (as many times he considers enough), or accept the reformulated version that he considers ready to be published.

The final decision about a manuscript publication, however, will always belong to the editor, who will appreciate the counselor statement e will notify the authors, as quickly as possible, about his decision, indicating the previewed date, volume and number of the journal, in wich the article will be published.

During the journal graphic edition process, the editor has the right to make small modifications in the authors text, to make the publication process faster. Before sending the manuscript to final printing, editor will send a graphic test for a last review by authors. This review will be made in 5 useful days and be sent back to the journal by Sedex or fax. If authors don’t give indicating corrections back, the manuscript will be printed according to the test. Authors will receive one copy of the Avaliação Psicológica journal by published article.
