INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

1-STANDARDS

1.1- SMAD Electronic Journal of Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs is published twice a year by the Research Lab on Stress, Alcohol and Drugs Use at the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing. Its aim is to publish essays, research and scientific reviews and updates on mental health and specifically alcohol and other psychoactive drugs.

1.2- Manuscripts must be sent to SMAD only. Simultaneous submission to other journals is not allowed. The copywright of all published manuscripts will belong to SMAD Electronic Journal of Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs. Reproduction is allowed provided that due reference and acknowledgement is made.

1.3- SMAD Electronic Journal of Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs will return neither original manuscripts sent for submission nor manuscripts that were not accepted for publication.

1.4- Statements and opinions expressed in the manuscripts are the author(s)' sole responsibility and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishing Committee or those of the Editorial Board.

1.5- Contributions must be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish or English and sent by e-mail to rev_smad@eerp.usp.br . However, contributions will only be accepted for analysis after a copy of the manuscript in Word for Windows 7.0 (on 3 ½ floppy disk or CD-ROM) has been received by mail, as well as the duly filled out and signed Responsibility and Copywright Transfer Agreements (model in attachment).

§ Manuscript copies on 3 ½ floppy disk or CD-ROM must be properly labelled, with name of the author(s), contact telephone number and e-mail clearly readable.

§ All manuscripts submitted for publication will be evaluated by the Assistant Editors and Advisors, who are fully authorized to decide upon its acceptance or return it to the authors for alterations. In this case, the manuscript will be re-evaluated by the Assistant Editors and, if necessary, by the Advisors.

§ The names of reviewers will be kept in secrecy and the name(s) of author(s) will also be omitted from reviewers.

§ For research involving human subjects, authors must present a declaration stating that the subjects' written consent has been obtained (informed consent) and a copy of the approval by the Ethics Committee that analyzed the research project must be added to the manuscript.

2-FORMAT

2.1- All manuscripts must use official spelling rules, font 12 times new roman, A4 paper size, double-line spacing, margins of 2.5cm on all sides in a maximum of 15 numbered pages (including illustrations: graphs, tables, pictures, etc.).

2.2- Send with your manuscript a cover letter including the title of your manuscript in upper case, the author(s)' complete name(s). In a footnote, specify the author(s)' institutional affiliation(s), current degree(s) or position(s), as well as one contact e-mail.

2.3- Abstracts: in Portuguese, English and Spanish. All abstracts must have a maximum of 100 words, highlighting the article's main points and conclusions.

2.4- Uniterms: (at least 3 and at most 6 keywords or expressions) are keywords or expressions that identify the article. To choose uniterms in Portuguese, English and Spanish, use Index Medicus - “Medical Subject Headings” or DECS-LILACS- Descriptors in Health Sciences, elaborated by BIREME.

2.5- Text:

§ Introduction
§ Material and Methods
§ Results
§ Discussion
§ Conclusions or final considerations
§ Acknowledgements (if applicable)

2.6- Bibliographic References: number the references consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text. List the 6 first authors followed by et al. The Vancouver system should be used in the text.

3-ABBREVIATIONS

The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.

4-FIGURES AND TABLES

All figures and tables must be included and duly identified in the body of the text, but also saved as duly identified separate files to allow for recovery in case of technical problems. Figures must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order of their citation in the text and a brief title must be included under each picture. Indicate the position of photographs in the body of the text.

Tables must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order of their citation in the text and a brief title must be included above each table.

Observation : all files must be sent on one and the same 3 ½ floppy disk or CD-ROM.
